I just got back from the Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program Psychology Institute, and it was fabulous! I loved it so much that I decided to write an overview of the topics we learned about (some of which I will dive into more deeply in future entries).

  1. Brain Plasticity–learning about how the brain develops at different ages

  2. Pseudosciences–lecture about what qualifies a pseudoscience

  3. Senses–lecture about what qualifies as a sense and in depth about senses in memory

  4. Psychology of Magic–lecture about how magicians use psychology to distract their audiences

  5. Emotions–lecture about what qualifies as an emotion and their triggers

  6. the “gut” feeling–lecture about whether or not the gut feeling is real, and if we should listen to it

Although the lectures by Dr. Waugh and Dr. Maufeo did not go into a lot of depth, they were very informative and showcased the wide breadth of their specialties and expertise.  They ended the program with a “burning question” section where we dove into topics like self-esteem, accents, fashion, pyschopaths, and many more interesting topics.

If you ever have the opportunity to attend a Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program, I highly reccomend it!
